Stark Br's Fulfillment began in 1816 as a direct marketer of horticultural products and today has developed into the industry leading outsourced fulfillment services provider.
Stark Bro’s Fulfillment Services® began as a subsidiary of Stark Bro’s Nurseries a little less than two centuries ago. While the company’s first customers were in the horticultural business, new clients that sell all types of merchandise have been added over the years.
In 1994, the company’s main client, Foster & Gallagher, a $400 million catalog marketer with more than 20 catalogs, acquired Stark Bro’s. In the late 90s they also acquired Michigan Bulb, a sweepstakes company with more than $120 million in sales. Stark Bro’s acted as the operations and fulfillment provider for Foster & Gallagher’s sister division as well as other independent catalog companies. The management team eventually decided to phase out the horticultural side of the business and move into direct retail fulfillment.
In 2007 Stark Bro's Fulfillment and Sigma Micro, the industry’s most trusted direct retail technology systems, joined together under the common ownership of Sigma Holdings.
On January 25, 2010 Indianapolis based Sigma Micro LLC and Missouri based Stark Bro’s Fulfillment announce their official consolidation under a new brand; Fifth Gear. The new company will continue to serve the direct retail industry offering outsourced operational, ecommerce, and interactive marketing services for retailers and manufacturers.
Fifth Gear’s service offering as a single source provider for fulfillment services, contact center services, ecommerce and internet marketing allows direct merchants to scale their businesses without building their own costly infrastructure or expertise.
